Description

GoldBio’s AGL-1 Agrobacterium Electrocompetent Cells are optimized to produce the highest transformation efficiency, and are ideal for applications requiring high transformation efficiencies such as cDNA or gDNA library construction. The AGL-1 strain has a C58 chromosomal background that carries an insertion mutation in its recA recombination gene which stabilizes recombinant plasmids. It also carries rifampicin and carbenicillin resistance in its genome for selection. AGL-1 contains the Ti plasmid pTiBo542 from which the T-DNA region sequences have been deleted. Transformation with a binary vector containing the missing T-region results in a functional T-DNA binary system that allows for transfer of genetic material into a host plant’s genome. Therefore, this system is often used for Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of Arabidopsis thaliana as well as maize and other monocots.

Description

Luciferin is a common bioluminescent reporter used for in vivo imaging of the expression of luciferase. This water soluble substrate for the firefly luciferase enzyme utilizes ATP and Mg2+ as cofactors to emit a characteristic yellow-green emission in the presence of oxygen, which shifts to red light in vivo at 37°C. Through the utilization of ATP, the reaction can be further used to indicate the presence of energy or life in order to function as a life-death stain.

Luciferin is a common reagent used throughout the biotechnology field and specifically for in vivo imaging. Luciferase labeled tumor cells, stem cells or infectious diseases are often inoculated into research animals such as rats or mice for investigation. The injection of luciferin allows for the real-time, noninvasive monitoring of disease progression and/or drug efficacy in these model systems through Bioluminescence Imaging (BLI).

Luciferin is also commonly used for in vitro research, including luciferase and ATP assays, gene reporter assays, high throughput sequencing and various contamination assays.

Description

DL-ethionine changes behavior of hepatic functions by working as a carcinogenic agent that induces cholangiocarcinogensis in vivo and can be used to induce oxidative stress on the liver to measure antioxidant enzymatic activity. In the pancreas it destroys acinar cells and eventually induces pancreatitis in rats. DL-ethionine also inhibits incorporation of amino acids, like methionine and glycine, into rat protein in vivo and interferes with the use of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in cells.
