Viral MIP2 is a viral homolog of the human chemokines. It is encoded by the K4 gene in human herpesvirus-8. Viral MIP2 binds with high affinity to most chemokine receptors as an antagonist. It binds to CCR3 and CCR8 as an agonist. VMIP2 is chemotactic for Th2 cells, eosinophils, and monocytes. It plays a role in promoting Kaposi’s sarcoma, possibly through chemotaxis of monocytes or by angiogenesis. VMIP2 also diminishes host immunity by upregulating IL10 and can block infection of type 1 HIV strains by binding to host chemokine receptors.
Sterile Filtered White lyophilized powder. Purified and tested for use in cell culture.
Source: Escherichia coli
MW: ~8.0 kDa (70 amino acids)
Purity: >97% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses
Biological Activity: Fully biologically active when compared to standard. The specific activity is determined by the inhibitory effect on monocyte migration response to human MIP-1 alpha using a concentration range of 1-10 µg/ml of viral MIP-2 will inhibit 25 ng/ml of human MIP-1 alpha.
Storage/Handling: Store desiccated at -20°C.
