This vs. That – Your Guide to Choosing Between Similar Reagents
There are a lot of products in the lab that do similar things but were developed for a specialized...
XTT sodium salt is used in the XTT colormetric assay and assists in identifying metabolic activity within cells. In the XTT assay, the metabolic activity of cells reduces XTT sodium salt to an orange color formazan dye by dehydrogenase enzymes. Dye conversion will only occur in viable cells.
Since the reduction of XTT takes place by electron transport from outside the cell, the use of an intermediate electron acceptor, such as phenazine methosulfate (PMS) is usually required to perform a cell proliferation assay.
XTT sodium salt is similar to MTT (thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide); however, it offers advantages such as water solubility, low toxicity and higher sensitivity.
