Antibiotics

Gold Biotechnology offers more than 200 unique antibiotic agents for use in a wide variety of cell culture, microbiology and molecular biology applications. Antibiotic agents are often clinically used to inhibit bacterial growth or kill bacteria as selection markers in agar or liquid media. The first commercially available antibiotics were developed in the 1930s, starting with the sulfonamides in 1932 and exploded later with the discovery of penicillin in 1942. Gold Biotechnology’s antibiotics cover 14 classes, including aminoglycosides, carbapenems, macrolides, penicillins, quinolones, sulfonamides and tetracyclines, as well as multiple generations of cephalosporin antibiotics.

Tropolone

Catalog ID Size Pricing
T-500-5 5 g $ 141.00
T-500-25 25 g $ 351.00

Description

Tropolone is a bactericidal antibiotic composed of a seven-membered aromatic ring. It targets a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Tropolone has been used to prepared fused heterocycles and Ga(III) and In(III) complexes. It is also a reagent used to reduce sugars. It is freely soluble in various organic solvents.

It is suspected that tropolone targets cell membranes increasing their permeability and causing cell lysis.

Validamycin A

Catalog ID Size Pricing
V-170-1 1 g $ 142.00

Description

Validamycin is a fungicidal, aminoglycoside antibiotic known to inhibit trehalases in plants, insects, and fungi as well as enhance trehalose accumulation in transgenic plants. It is effective against Pellicularia sasakii and Rhizoctonia solani in plants, but only decreases their virulence instead of exhibiting a fungicidal effect. In addition, validamycin is used to control sheath-blight disease in rice and is most effective against soil-borne pathogens. It is used to study trehalase activity and the synthesis of trehalose.

Valproate Sodium

Catalog ID Size Pricing
V-341-10 10 g $ 39.00
V-341-25 25 g $ 59.00
V-341-50 50 g $ 105.00
V-341-100 100 g $ 179.00

Description

Valproate sodium is a branched chain fatty acid with anticancer, neuroprotective, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also an inhibitor of histone deacetylase (HDAC) through promotion of transcriptionally active chromatin. This inhibition may regulate the neuroprotective effects of valproic acid. The molecules: VEGF, BNDF andGNDF mediate the effects.

While its mechanism is not well understood, it is suggested that valproate sodium inhibits sodium ion channels.
