Auxo-Agro™ Agrobacterium Competent Cells
Are antibiotics hurting your plant transformants?
Agrobacterium removal is needed following a successful plant transformation. Traditionally, antibiotics are used for this purpose, but higher concentrations of antibiotics can have an adverse effect on plant tissue.
GoldBio EHA105∆Met1 and LBA4404∆Met1 Agrobacterium tumefaciens competent cells minimize the use of antibiotics to prevent overgrowth of the plant tissue and can help streamline your plant transformation procedures.
Benefits:
- Reduces the need for antibiotics during transformation.
- Increases plant transformation efficiency.
- Agrobacterium can be completely killed by removing methionine from the culture media combined with a low concentration of antibiotic.
- Knocking out genes to cause auxotrophy DOES NOT affect transformation capacity.1

Important note from this paper: “Switchgrass transformation was chosen to validate these strains by evaluating their performance in a difficult transformation system."
